Senior Agronomist

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Agronomist to be the technical authority on cashew farming within Stawi. You will ensure that our seedling distribution leads to actual yield improvements. You will design modern farming curriculums, train our extension officers, and work directly with farmers to diagnose crop issues and improve resilience against climate change.

What You’ll Do

• Technical Leadership: serve as the subject matter expert on cashew nut agronomy, good agricultural practices (GAP), and integrated pest management (IPM).
• Curriculum Design: Develop training materials and workshops for farmers relative to seedling care, grafting, and harvest optimization.
• Extension Support: Train and supervise field extension officers to ensure consistent technical advice is given to farmers.
• Research & Development: Monitor pilot plots and collaborate with research institutes (like Naliendele) to introduce improved varieties.
• Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality of seedlings procured and distributed to ensuring high survival rates.

What You’ll Need

• Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or Soil Science.
• Deep expertise in the cashew nut value chain or general tree crop management.
• Experience working in agricultural extension services in Tanzania.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into simple instructions for farmers.
• Willingness to travel extensively within the Coastal Region.

Nice to Haves

• Master’s degree in a related field.
• Experience with organic farming certification standards.
